Montreal Guitar Trio (MG3) and California Guitar Trio (CGT) decided to link their passion and their talent in order to create a great evening guitar. At the time of this meeting at the top, the public will have the occasion to see and intend the six guitarists virtuosos to devote themselves to one performance removing where film music, progressive rock’n’roll, world, jazz and traditional tangle up in the erudite arrangements created for the occasion. On program: the music of legendary groups rock’n’roll Queen, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, some famous western spaghetti of Sergio Leone of even as several orignales compositions of the members of MG3 and CGT.

Three Guitars in Hollywood

MG3 with Symphony Orchestra

In collaboration with an orchestra and with the know-how of arranger Michel Gingras, MG3 takes us to Hollywood on a voyage of rediscovery of some of the best-known themes and music written for the cinema. The celebrated composer Morricone, who wrote the music for the Sergio Leone’s spaghetti westerns, is the star of the program. We are also treated to music by B Hermann, who wrote the score for the greatest thriller of all times: Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho. The programme also features the greatest hits of D Elfman, composed for The Nightmare before Christmas and Men in Black. During the last few seasons, MG3 has been the guest of the Orchestre symphonique du Saguenay—Lac-Saint-Jean, the Orchestre symphonique de Québec, the Kamloops Symphony orchestra and the Ensemble Appassionata.

Formed by three guitarists of unbridled energy and charisma, MG3 leads its audience in a special place where jazz and world music are entwined with gusto. Spiced by a wry sense of humor, its music exubes an irresistible energy and an overwhelming passion that will make you stamp furiously! The trio’s eclectic music takes listeners on a journey through the world’s many cultures — from the mysterious, exotic melodies of India to the hot rhythms of South America, Spain, the Balkans, the Orient, traditional Quebec and… Hollywood. Coming from a classical background, MG3 members also sing and write much of their material. Since it was founded at University of Montréal in 1998, MG3 has given hundreds of concerts in North America, Western and Eastern Europe, many of which have been recorded and broadcast by national networks such as CBC, Radio-France, BRAVO and Société Radio- Canada. In 2007, MG3 released its 3rd CD and had a very successful Prairie Tour in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The trio also made its debut in Danemark, New Zealand, and performed last September at the legendary Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
